A practical financial guide to Letters of Credit (LC), Cash Against Documents (CAD), and TT advance terms when structuring agricultural import contracts.
Choosing payment terms is about balancing risk and cost for both buyer and seller. These are the three most common terms in agricultural trade.
The buyer pays part or all of the value before shipment. It is simple and fast, and is often used for first orders or small volumes, but it puts more risk on the buyer.
Shipping documents are released through banks once the buyer pays. It is cheaper than a letter of credit and gives the buyer control over when the goods are released.
The buyer's bank guarantees payment once documents meeting the LC terms are presented. It gives strong protection to both sides, but documents must match the LC exactly, so draft the terms carefully.
We confirm payment terms with each quotation, and are happy to discuss a mix of advance and balance-against-documents for repeat buyers.
